What You Will Learn

Search for an item in the price catalogue by a word or words, parts of words or phrases found in item descriptions.

Getting Started

Open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window. If you are not sure how to open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window refer to:

Lesson 1 To open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window

Locating a Product Item with Text Search

1 Click on the Text Search tab. The Text Search window is displayed:

The Text Search window contains a Search Key field, a Search Options area and a Search Results box.

The Search Key data field is used to enter a word, part word or phrase that you want to locate. When the Search button is clicked, the Search Results list box is filled with a list of Product Types or Groups that contain items whose descriptions contain your search keys. Clicking the plus sign (+) beside a Product Type or Group will reveal the items that match your search keys

Two or more pieces of text can be entered into the Search Key field provided that a space is used to separate each word.

The Search Key field retains a list of the last several search keys that you have used. Click the down arrow at the right of the Search Key field to display the list. Click on a list entry to place that key into the Search Key field.

The Search Options area allows you to instruct Winpriser to look for item descriptions that match all the search keys (Match all words), that match any one of the search keys (Match any word) or that contain the exact search key phrase (Match exact results). Options are selected by clicking in the appropriate check box to the left of your choice.

Winpriser will display the Search Results organized by Product Type or by Group.

2 Suppose that we are interested in finding a 6" PVC Gasketed TY. In the Search Key data field, enter the words "PVC" and "TY" separated by a space. Make sure that the "Match all words" option is checked and select "Order search results by product type". The Search window should look like this:

Click on the Search button. As the text search runs, the Search Results list box will be filled with a list of the Product Types that contain items that each contain words matching the text key that you entered. Your Search Results list box will look something like this:

3 We are looking for a Gasketed TY. Find the PVC Gasketed Ftgs product type and click the plus (+) sign to the left of the type.

Your Search Results will look as follows:

4 Click the plus (+) sign to the left of PVCGSKT TY GXGXG to show the sizes for this TY.

5 Click on the 6" size, the right hand detail data side of the Catalogue Lookup window displays information about the item and size selected.

6 Sometimes the list of Search Results is too long to easily browse. If this happens you may want to add further search keys to narrow down your search. For example, if we had simply used a Search Key of "PVC" in the above example the Search Results box would look like this:

As you can see, the list of Product Types is much longer.

If we select "Find matches in current results" and enter a Search Key of "TY" the program will quickly search through the list of "PVC" matches looking for matches to the new Search Key "TY".

The Search Results are the same as the "PVC TY" search in Step 3:

Using the Locating a Product Item with Text Search example above as your guide, experiment with other Search Keys and Search Options.
