How to use Winpriser to create an initial update to load pricing into other programs.

Getting Started

As a subscriber to one of Allpriser’s Winpriser Computer Pricing Services you receive regular Pricing Updates. These updates can be delivered to you on diskette by mail or over the internet. Winpriser uses these updates to keep its catalogues up to date.

Both diskette and internet updates are applied using Winpriser’s Price Update Wizard.

Open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window. If you are not sure how to open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window refer to:

Lesson 1 To open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window

 Open the Price Update Wizard

1 Click on the Update button in the Catalogue toolbar.

The Catalogue Price Update Wizard Step 1 window will appear:

REDBOOK.DAT is the standard name for all update files for the RedBook Computer Pricing Service. Updates for the BlueBook Waterworks Pricing Service are delivered in BLUEBOOK.DAT files. The GoldBook Luxury Service uses GOLDBOOK.DAT and the Silver HVAC Service files are called SLVRBOOK.DAT.

If you receive your updates over the internet proceed to Internet Updates Step 4 below.

 Internet Updates

Winpriser can now use your internet connection to automatically download its price updates.

You must notify Allpriser that you wish to use Internet Updates. We will set up a security account for you on our website to allow your copy of Winpriser to access the site.

We will send you an email each time a new update file is posted to the website.

4 Click on the Internet button in the Price Update Wizard Step 1 window.

The Internet Update Manager window will appear.

The Internet Update Manager window lists all recent updates.

A green light beside a Mailing# indicates that the update has already been applied to your catalogue. A yellow light means that the update is new and has not yet been applied.

If the update includes an informational bulletin, you should click on the F2-Bulletin toolbar button to display the bulletin.

5 Place a checkmark beside the update or updates that you wish to apply to your catalogue.

Click the F3-Download button to begin downloading the update.

 Convert Update File

10 If you are using Winpriser Price Updates with software other than Winpriser, the Price Update Wizard Step 7 window allows you to convert the update information into the specific file format that your software requires.

If you receive your updates on diskette and your other software uses our standard REDBOOK.DAT update file, you do not have to convert. Use the diskette to apply the changes to your other software.

If you are using Internet Updates and your other software uses our standard REDBOOK.DAT update file, you should use Convert to create a REDBOOK.DAT file on diskette or hard disk. Use the converted file to update your other software.

Click on the Convert button to begin the conversion.

If you do not need to convert the update click the Finished button to return to the Catalogue window.

11 Select the Conversion File Format that is appropriate for your other software and click the Convert button.

Selecting the Winpriser Update Service format produces a REDBOOK.DAT update file.

12 Specify a drive and a folder to be used to store the converted file. Click the Save button.

Click the Ok button when the conversion is completed.

Click the Close button on the Price Update Conversion window.

Click the Finished button to return to the Catalogue window.

Creating an initial load update for use in other programs

If you intend to use Winpriser Pricing Service updates with software other than Winpriser, you will need a start up update with pricing for all items to initialize your other software’s pricing.

A complete up-to-date Catalogue of items and prices is installed with Winpriser. As well as being a useful tool for Price Lookup, Estimating, Invoicing and Purchase Orders, Winpriser can be used to produce an initial load Update file containing pricing for all items in its Catalogue.

Follow these steps to load Winpriser pricing into software provided by a company other than Allpriser -

Convert Catalogue

13 Install Winpriser on your computer. (See "To Install Winpriser" on Page 1 of this manual.)

14 Start Winpriser and open the Catalogue. (See Lesson 1 To open the RedBook Catalogue Lookup window)

15 Click File | Convert Catalogue on the Winpriser main menu.

This procedure will extract pricing information from the catalogue and write it to an update file. See Convert Update File above for more details on Conversion.

Select Winpriser Update Service if your program requires Allpriser's standard REDBOOK.DAT file or one of the other specialized Conversion formats as appropriate.

16 Use the Price Update procedure in your other software to apply the update file that you extracted in Step 15.

17 Look up items in Winpriser and in your other software to verify that the initial load was successful.
